The European Space Agency organised the first citizens' consultation about space The Citizens' Debate on Space for Europe is a unique - indeed the first - consultation organised in every member state of the European Space Agency (ESA). Over 2000 citizens selected to reflect the socio-demographic diversity of their country debated space issues during a day-long meeting. In order to consolidate the 22 national results reports into one European report, all debates followed the same instructions and the same set of questions has been answered.

Lunar Google Team Frednet wins NASA new task order in 10M$ in lunar landing contract with the help of ISE.
ISE will be officially collaborating with the Lunar Google Xprize team FredNet in making sure the risk of solar storms in jeopardizing the communications to the moon will be minimized. A solar storm can yield a powerful stream of high energy charged particles which could power down on board systems provoking black outs and thus jeopardizing the whole mission, especially since the whole mission success depends on the successful transmission of data from the Moon. Other areas of collaboration are being explored as well.
The solar storms flared up between Feb. 23 and 24 and exploded from nearly all areas of the star, including the top, bottom, left and right sides of the solar disk as seen by space-based observatories, according to NASA scientists. In fact, four of these outbursts came within a single 24-hour period.

Irene Schneider interview on youtube.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The sun is bombarding Earth with radiation from the biggest solar storm in more than six years with more to come from the fast-moving eruption.
Radiation from an immense solar blast hit the Earth Tuesday -- forcing Delta Air Lines to redirect at least half a dozen airplanes that had been routed over the North Pole. NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center -- the nation’s official source of warnings about space weather and its impact on Earth -- issued a geomagnetic storm warning Monday after a satellite witnessed an ultraviolet flash from the massive solar eruption.
Dr. Leroy is interviewed and the first topic in our second segment included a question from Clark in Sand Diego regarding astronauts as radiation workers. We talked about lifetime radiation levels at length, Mars and lunar missions & ISS long duration missions, all in the context of radiation which Dr. Chiao listed as the top challenge/priority for long duration human spaceflight.
